New Mega Evolutions are coming to the Pokémon universe in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!

Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations certain Pokémon can undergo, which increase their power, change their appearance and, sometimes, alter their type. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is finally shaking up the roster after its been set for a long while!

So let's take a look at the new Mega Evolutions and returning Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Don't forget to check out the every returning Pokémon list either.

New Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends Z-A

Here are all of the new Mega Evolutions which have been revealed for Pokémon Legends: Z-A so far:

Mega Raichu

Raichu is doing a Charizard and will have two different Mega Evolutions - Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. (It's even stolen the naming convention for Mega Charizard and Mewtwo...) If you want these Mega Evolutions, then you'll need to purchase the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and find the two separate Mega Stones. Yes, each Mega Raichu form requires a unique stone. Thankfully, the designs are quite different ensuring the work is worth it.

Mega Raichu X has two, almost elf-like ears with a flipped colour design compared to Raichu's original Gen One design. The most notable feature, however, are Mega Raichu X's two lightning bolt tails! It's described as 'using electromagnetism, concentrating electricity into its fists to land devastating blows.'

Meanwhile, Mega Raichu Y has the far cuter design in my opinion. It keeps the darker colouring of Raichu (X looks quite similar to Pikachu in many ways), but has a number of little fur tuffs. What truly stands out about Mega Raichu Y though are the lighting bolt-like spikes coming out from the base of its ears! I wouldn't want to get cught on the end of those... Mega Raichu Y is described as striking 'foes swiftly with the amplified electric power coursing through its body.'

Both Mega Raichy Y and X are Electric-type Pokémon.

Mega Chesnaught

While they might not be the starter Pokémon in Legends: Z-A, the original Gen 6 Pokémon are still getting some love during our return to the Kalos region in the form of new Mega Evolutions! Let's start with Mega Chesnaught. To get this Mega Evolution, you'll need both a Chesnaught (the final evolution of Grass-type starter, Chespin) and a Chesnaughtite Stone. Said Mega Stone will be available via the Z-A Battle Club as a reward for when you're promoted up the ranks in online Ranked Battles.

Taking a look at Mega Chesnaught itself, you'll see that it's back plate has definately gotten an upgrade. There's an awful lot more spikes compared to its traditional form. Mega Chesnaught also appears to be wearing some sort of red fur cape and has an overall darker colour design.

The Chesnaughtite Mega Stone will be available during Ranked Battles Season 3, which will follow Season 2.

Mega Delphox

Mega Delphox is up next! The Mega Evolution for the final evolution of Gen Six's Fire-type starter, Fennekin, continues to look incredibly cool. The black colouring of the lower half of its body makes it look like Mega Delphox has just escaped a fire. It also has far more burning sticks and a elegant fur flowing from its head. Delphox has always been a favourite Pokémon of mine, so I'm quite excited to see its new look. Gives me a good idea for who might be the Fire-type in my Legends: Z-A team...

Oh, Mega Delphox also seems to be riding a broomstick! Have I mentioned that I think this Pokémon looks cool?

To get Mega Delphox, you'll need a Delphoxite Stone. Like with Mega Chesnaught, this Mega Stone will be available as a reward from levelling up your ranks in the online Ranked Battles in the Z-A Battle Club.

The Delphoxite Mega Stone will be available during Ranked Battles Season 2, which will follow Season 1.

Mega Greninja

Out of all the Gen Six starter Pokémon Mega Evolutions, Mega Greninja is the one that resembles its traditional design the most. Look closer, however, and you'll see that this redesign ties Greninja closer to its ninja inspiration.

The blue tones of its body have been replaced with black - very in keeping with the outfits ninjas are commonly depicted wearing in popular culture. It also appears to have two shurikens attached to its knees. (Yes, they should be more alined with Greninja's hips, but it is a ninja frog.) Most importantly, however, Mega Greninja appears to be hanging from a shuriken created out of water!

To get a Mega Greninja in Legends: Z-A, you'll need the final evolution of Froake, Gen Six's Water-type starter, itself and a Greninjite. Like with the previous Mega Stones for the other Gen Six starter Pokémon, this Mega Stone is one of the rewards you'll earn from increasing your ranked in Z-A Battle Club's online Ranked Battles.

The Greninjite Mega Stone will be available during Ranked Battles Season 1, which will start on Thursday 16th October.

Mega Malamar

Mega Malamar was the fourth new Mega Evolution announced for Legends: Z-A. Mega Evolution sees Malamar's psychic powers grow immensly and it puts them to work by hypnotising people to the point where it can overwrite their personalities completely. This was showcased in real life where all of the official Pokémon websites and social media accounts started talking about Malmar was their best friend. So basically Mega Malamar is this Pokémon's villain era...

To enchance these hypnotic capabilities, Mega Malamar has two long tentacles. It can spin these around and change their colours to most likely put other Pokémon and people in a trance. Mega Malamar's body also a rainbow colour design.

Mega Hawlucha

Mega Hawlucha was the third new Mega Evolution to be announced in the lead-up to Legends: Z-A's release. It was showcased in a video where Hawlucha is facing Machamp in a boxing match. For a moment, it looks like Hawlucha is about to lose the fight but then it transforms! Sorry Machamp...

Hawlucha's design has always taken inspiration from the costumes worn during Mexican wrestling matches, but Mega Hawlucha brings a splash of glamour. It now has a fancy, wing-like, collar and a far more impressive mask - both decorated in gold. This Pokémon is definately up for a fight!

Mega Victreebel

Mega Victreebel was the second new Mega Evolution to be announced before Pokémon Legends: Z-A's release and it was done so in a video that felt like the Pokémon version of the Blair Witch Project. (Seriously, if horror web series were a thing in the Pokémon universe then this is what it would look like.)

Mega Victreebel has taken its original form's pitcher plant inspiration to the extreme. Its main body is now incredibly round and bouncy. (I wonder how many poor Pokémon are trapped inside…) Meanwhile, the vine which usually hangs in front of its mouth has become wrapped around its head. This may make its mouth smaller, but I bet Mega Victreebel is still a deadly foe.

Mega Victreebel is a Grass and Poison-type Pokémon.

Mega Dragonite

Mega Dragonite sees this Gen 1 favourite take on elements of Dragonair's, its pre-evolved form, design. There's a little horn in the centre of its head and a pearl close to the end of its tail. Mega Dragonite also has a pair of angelic wings growing out of its head and little feathers appearing at the base of its legs. Truly a dragon for the skies!
