Picking the best Vex build in Borderlands 4 will depend on how you want to play as her, whether you want to make the most of her clones with the Dead Ringer action skill or have a giant cat beside you called Trouble.

Overall, Vex is a very welcoming character for newcomers and veterans alike in Borderlands 4. She's the Siren class and there are multiple different directions you can go in when it comes to building her character out to suit you.

So, on that note, here are our recommendations for the best Vex build in Borderlands 4, covering the best overall build and best builds for each action skill.

Borderlands 4 Best Vex build

Our recommendation for the overall best Vex build is the Blood Letter build that focuses heavily on enhancing Vex's bleed damage and overall damage per second. The build's main requirement is, of course, the 'Blood Letter' skill from the 'Fourth Seal' skill tree.

The action skill that should be equipped for the Blood Letter build is the 'Dead Ringer' one, where you can spawn either a Specter or Reaper Phase Clone Minion to join you in battle. They give you a helping hand against tougher or bigger groups of enemies when things get rough. Make sure you're maxing out any skills that increase your chance at landing a critical hit, like the 'Keen Suffering' passive and the 'Target Prescience' skill to increase kinetic damage.

You can find out more details about this specific build in our best builds guide.

Borderlands 4 Best Vex Dead Ringer build

Our recommendation for the best Vex Dead Ringer build is actually the Blood Letter build with the Coven augment attached to it. This is because, alongside focusing on boosting your overall DPS and letting enemies bleed out after you've hit them once, this build also urges you to max out your critical hit chance and up your kinetic damage stats.

We chose this for Dead Ringer because your Phase Clone Minions match Vex's current damage attunement when they spawn, so effectively you're doubling your current damage output by calling on them (this applies to both Reaper and Specter.)

When choosing which Phase Clone Minion to summon in this build, remember that a Reaper deals Melee Attack Damage and a Specter deals Gun Damage. We'd recommend choosing the Specter over the Reaper if you've focused soley on creating the recommended Blood Letter build, simply because of their focus on Gun Damage.

Borderlands 4 Best Vex Incarnate build

Our recommendation for the best Vex Incarnate build is a Kinetic Weapon Damage focused build, which puts all of your skillpoints into the Vexcalation skill tree. This build also highly compliments Jakob's guns, so it's worth considering if you're a fan of that type. That being said, unlike the Blood Letter build, this one gives you a bit more flexibility in your weapon and gear choices.

To make the most of this build you'll want to decide if you'd rather have Witchy Trigger Finger (increasing DPS, better for Eldritch Blasts and SMG boosts) or Grave Harvest (works alongside Heartpiercer and Blood is Power) augments equipped. Personally, I'd choose Witchy Trigger Finger because I prefer using SMGs and Assault Rifles in battle.

As it's a build that's Kinetic damage focused, you'll want to equip skills from the Vexcalation skill tree that boost this area. Most will, fortunately, have a secondary effect that will help keep you alive - like the Bloodletter and Blood Shot passives.

Of course, let's not forget that Vex's Incarnate action skill also allows her to heal while simulataneously causing damage to enemies - so that's something you should factor into your skill point investments in this build. Passive skills like Grave Vitality and Essence Leech are solid choices. Again, it's all on the Vexcalation skill tree.

Overall, you'll want to focus on increasing Vex's Kinetic Weapon damage while also finding ways to increase her health recovery to get the most out of Incarnate.

Borderlands 4 Best Vex Phase Phamiliar build

Our recommended best Vex Phase Phamiliar build is a damage boosting all round tank-like build that concentrates on getting the most of of Vex's companion, Trouble and utilising elemental damage. For this build you'll want to choose skills that boost Trouble, reduce their command and respawn cooldown time, and give elemental buffs.

This build requires that you spend all of your skill points on the Here Comes Trouble skill tree, which makes sense as we want to give as much power and efficacy to Trouble themselves. Of course, you'll need the Phase Phamiliar action skill equipped and the Beast Mode augment alongside it to get the most from this setup.

One of the first skills you should try to get is the Grave Command passive and max this out as this is a kill skill that restores some of Trouble's command skill and respawn cooldown, meaning you can use them again a lot faster.

Also, don't forget Vex herself in this build - it's easy to put everything on Trouble but you'll still need Vex to be strong enough to survive Trouble's cooldown and work alongside them. It's a team effort after all. Skills like the Blasted Friends passive and the Corporeal passive are a pair you should aim for.

Elemental damage is something you can make use of too in the Unsealed portion of this skill tree. The Deadwire and Grave Current passives both allow Vex's Minions to deal elemental Shock Damage, and for this build it will specifically apply to Trouble - giving them an extra something when facing enemies.
