Currently, the 'Hazard Pay' Weapon Skin can be earned by signing up to the Gearbox newsletters and digital marketing. To do this:

1. Login into your SHiFT account.
2. Select 'User Preferences'.
3. Tick 'I would like to receive news and promotional messages from 2K and its affiliates'.
4. Tick 'I wish to stay subscribed to the Gearbox newsletter'.
5. Select 'Update Preferences'.
6. Start playing Borderlands 4 and collect the 'Hazard Pay' Weapon Skin from the 'Reward Center' in the 'Inventory' menu.

If you don't get the 'Hazard Pay' Weapon Skin after doing the above, make sure the platform you're playing on is correctly linked to your SHiFT account.

If you purchased the Borderlands 4 ECHO-4 Bundle from GameStop will earn you a unique ShiFT code. Once redeemed, you'll unlock five Golden Keys. This code expires on December 31st, 2030 so you've got a long while to make use of it.

How to sign-up for a SHiFT account

To redeem SHiFT codes, you first need to create a SHiFT account. You can do this by either using an email or a first-party platform account, such as PlayStation, Steam or Xbox. Creating a SHiFT account is free, and even if you're not planning on using the codes, you'll need one for online matchmaking and crossplay multiplayer.

If you create your SHiFT account using an email, you will still need to link it to any of your first-party platform accounts. Simply log into your SHiFT account, select the 'Gaming Platforms' option and then 'Sign In' for your chosen platform account. There may be additional steps depending on the platform you've chosen.

You can also link your SHiFT account to a Twitch account by using the 'Twitch' option in the 'Gaming Platforms' menu. This will allow you to collect rewards from Borderlands 4 Twitch Drops and Gearbox has a page detailing the upcoming livestreams that will be offering rewards.

What are SHiFT codes?

SHiFT codes are used to unlock free rewards in not just Borderlands 4, but a number of games across the Borderlands series. Typically, you'll get a Golden Key, but you may occasionally earn a new skin or weapon. Though you'll most likely find the Golden Keys far more useful...

Golden Keys are used to open the Golden Chests you'll find in each of the main Faction Towns - The Launchpad, Carcadia, Belton's Bore and The Lockaway. It's worth going out of your way to open Golden Chests, because you'll be rewarded with a host of useful equipment, such as Legendary weapons and gear, cash, or an awful lot of ammo.

SHiFT codes are usually shared by Randy Pitchford, the co-founder of Gearbox, on his X account. They can also be sent out via newsletters or found within promotional material for the series. New codes might also be released on the Gearbox X account or the Gearbox Facebook account.

It's important to note that the majority of the SHiFT codes released are only available for a limited time period. This means you need to redeem them quickly if you want to get those rewards! You can also only redeem each code once per account.
