Every Silent Hill f ending requirement and endings explained
How to get every ending Silent Hill f.

There are five Silent Hill f endings, with each one offering a different conclusion to Hinako's story.
There's Silent Hill f ending requirements for each one though and missing a requirement could send Hinako to an ending you've already seen. Silent Hill f also keeps to tradition by having a silly UFO ending!
So let's take a look at how to get every ending in Silent Hill f. Afterwards I've delved into what I consider to be the Silent Hill f true ending, alongside explaining what's happening in every ending. Be warned - this guide contains spoilers!
On this page:
How to get every Silent Hill f ending
Here's how to get each of the five endings in Silent Hill f, with their requirement detailed and explanations for certain puzzles:
I've done my best to avoid them, but there are small story spoilers below.
Ending 1 'Coming Home To Roost' requirements
Simply complete a playthrough of Silent Hill f for the first time. It will also unlock the 'Coming Home To Roost' achievement.
Seriously - you're automatically locked into this ending during your first playthrough of the game. Nothing you do will shake Hinako from its path, so enjoy playing the game until you reach this conclusion.
After completing this playthrough, you'll then be prompted to save your game. Doing so will create a New Game + file which is where you'll unlock the other endings. The 'Endings' option will also be added to the main menu and there you'll find hints for unlocking some of the other endings. (Though we've got all of the ending details down below…)

Ending 2 'Fox's Wedding' requirements
Firstly, you must be playing on a New Game + file to get the 'Fox's Wedding' ending in Silent Hill f. Yet, there's a number of other requirements you need to complete as well or else you risk reaching the first ending once again.
Here's the full requirements for Silent Hill f's second ending:
- Be playing on a New Game + file.
- Do not use any Red Capsules for the entire playthrough.
- Either don't find the Sacred Sword or purify the sword.
- Get the Agura no Hotei-sama.
Getting this ending will unlock the 'Fox's Wedding' achievement.
Quick note on the Red Capsules - picking up these items is fine, but you must not use them. Instead, use other healing items if you need to restore either Health or Sanity. Having Hinako consume a Red Capsule will lock you out of this ending and will do the same for two other endings.
Personally I recommend not picking up the Sacred Sword if you're going for this ending. Doing so adds more times to this playthrough and purifying the sword actually reduces its capability as a weapon. Basically, you're giving Hinako more work to do with little reward. On top of that, you'll have to find the Sacred Sword for another ending anyways so it's really best left alone for now.
Though if you have obtained the Sacred Sword, you can purify it by completing the Crimson Water puzzle. This puzzle is located in the same place as the Agura no Hotei-sama and I've outlined how to find that below. After you've solved this puzzle, you'll be able to purify the Sacred Sword at the shrine in northern Sugisato when you return to Ebisugaoka.
To get the Agura no Hotei-sama, you need to reach the Main Hall in Chapter Nine. Once there, you'll now find that you're able to access the attic which lies between the second ritual room and the lobby. Be prepared though - this area contains some dangerous enemies.

After defeating the enemies, use the Focus ability on the picture of the fox shrine on the wall. Dispelling this picture will lead to a secret room and a locked emblem door. Going through said door will take you to a garden area that also contains an office. Enter this office and you'll find the Hotei-sama sitting Cross-Legged on the desk inside. This is, in fact, the Agura no Hotei-sama!

Ending 3 'The Fox Wets Its Tail' requirements
Like the above ending, 'The Fox Wets Its Tail' ending must be unlocked on a New Game + file. If you're playing a new file, you'll only be able to obtain the first ending.
Here's the full requirements for 'The Fox Wets Its Tail', Silent Hill f's third ending:
- Be playing on a New Game + file.
- Do not use any Red Capsules.
- Obtain the Sacred Sword from the Divine Tree by solving the Sacred Sword puzzle.
- Do not purify the Sacred Sword.
Reaching this ending will unlock the 'The Fox Wets Its Tail' achievement.
This is the first ending that actually requires you to obtain the Sacred Sword hence my recommendation to avoid grabbing it when attempting to reach the second ending. Just make sure you don't purify the Sacred Sword or else you won't be able to reach this ending.
The Sacred Sword is obtained by solving the Sacred Sword puzzle - one of the longest puzzles Silent Hill f has to offer. It's divided into five stages across multiple chapters and involves finding five Research Journal Photos. After finding one, you'll then need to find an offering to give to a jizo statue. Once all five statues have an offering, Hinako will need to visit the Divine Tree where you'll get the Sacred Sword. It's a good idea to keep an eye on your map when attempting to solve this puzzle as Hinkao will note down some useful information.

Ending 4 'Ebisugaoka in Silence' requirements
Firstly, it's important to note that the 'Ebisugaoka in Silence' ending requires you to have completed at least two of the above endings on the same New Game + save file. The first ending, 'Coming Home to Roost' is counted as one of these endings thankfully. Icons are also added to the save file every time you complete an ending, so it's easy to keep track of how many you've witnessed.
In full, the requirement for the 'Ebisugaoka in Silence' ending are:
- Have completed at least two endings on a New Game + file.
- Do not use any Red Capsules.
- Obtain the Sacred Sword from the Divine Tree by solving the Sacred Sword puzzle.
- Purify the Sacred Sword by completing the Crimson Water puzzle.
- Offer the Brooch to the Ancient Jizo Statue.
Reaching this ending will unlock the 'Ebisugaoka in Silence' achievement.
'Ebisugaoka in Silence' is by far the longest ending to get mostly because it solves both getting and purifying the Sacred Sword by solving the Crimson Water puzzle. Failing to do so will lead you to receiving a different ending.
Thankfully, you don't have to obtain the Brooch as it will be automatically added to Hinako's inventory every time you begin any New Game + playthrough. (Even if you've already obtained this ending.)
When it comes to finding the Ancient Jizo Statue, you need to wait until you're travelling from Shu's house to Hinako's in Ebisugaoka. This journey will take you through a playground where, after defeating an enemy, a staircase you need to climb will be unlocked.
When you're nearly at the top of the stairs, you'll spot an almost camouflaged path to your right-hand side. Going down this path will lead you to the Ancient Jizo Statue. Interacting with said statue will cause Hinako to automatically offer her Brooch. If you're having trouble finding the statue, then take a look at the map - Hinako will have placed a question mark near its location.

Ending 5 'The Great Space Invasion' (UFO ending) requirements
The Great Space Invasion, also known as Silent Hill F's UFO ending, continues the series' tradition of having a bizarre hidden ending to offset all of the horror. Sadly, Mira the shiba inu doesn't make an appearance in this game but there are aliens!
To get this ending you need to be playing on a New Game+ file. You also need to find three radios, three posters and a movie review - all which are hidden across the first five Chapters. Once you've found all of them, the UFO ending will automatically begin. The good news is that you might have spotted some of these items, especially the radios, during a prior playthrough which will make them easier to find.
Don't worry, I'll walk you through where to find all of them down below. Just keep in mind that you must find the posters in the order I've outlined and listen to each UFO broadcast in full else you risk not getting the UFO ending.
Here's how to get The Great Space Invasion ending in Silent Hill F:
- Chapter One Radio location - Located in the southern side of town containing the canals. Find the archway made from metal near a dumpster on the left-hand side before you need to enter the house. Go under this metal and you'll find the radio in the room beyond. Make sure you listen to the UFO broadcast.
- Chapter Three Poster location - On the shed in the southeast corner of the rice fields. You'll need to push away a barricade from the fence and go around the back of the shed to find it. This is the shed you'll most likely pass on your way to the garden where Ara-abare is fought for the first time.
- Chapter Five Poster One location - On a wooden fence near some potted plants and a bike in the southeastern region of Ebisugaoka.
- Chapter Five Poster Two location - On a wall behind the Chizuruya General Store near a bike.
- Chapter Five Radio One location - Inside the Doctor's House, head to the second floor. Here you'll find the radio atop a chest inside the office. Listen to the UFO broadcast.
- Chapter Five Radio Two location - Inside the house you'll visit when catching up with Shu and Rinko. It's atop a dresser near a fan. Listen to the broadcast in full.
- Chapter Five The Great Space Invasion Movie Review location - Go to the Chizuruya General Store. Once there, you'll have to defeat an Ara-abare and Kashimashi. Afterwards, interact with the UFO toy on the table near the store's entrance.

If you've done everything correctly, the UFO ending should now play! Helpfully UFOs will also appear in the sky if you're following the order correctly, so you'll know you're on the right track. Just remember to interact with the posters in the correct order.
As an added bonus, checking any of the posters in another playthrough after completing the UFO ending will unlock the PP-8001 plasma sword. This weapon can not be discarded or broken and has very similar capabilities to the Sacred Sword.
You'll also unlock the 'The Great Space Invasion!' achievement.
Silent Hill f endings explained: What is the Silent Hill f true ending?
Before we delve into what's going on in Silent Hill f, please note that this section contains massive spoilers. If you haven't completed the game yet, then reading this will most likely spoil the story for you. Please read at your own risk!

At its core, Silent Hill f is a story about the societal pressures many Japanese women experienced in the 1960s. Namely in how they were expected to fulfil the role of a dutiful and subservient wife even if it meant putting their own dreams aside. Though I describe this as societal pressure in the 1960s, it's still prevalent across the world today. This makes Hinako's story, sadly, relevant to our current times and into the future.
Silent Hill f heightens this pressure in three key ways. Firstly, Hinako's heart is a rebellious one. She does not want to get married. She wants to go out and craft her own path through life. Yet the world, and many of the people in it, are expecting her to abandon this drive and transform into a wife. Secondly, Hinako's marriage is arranged and done so to pay off her father's debts. This means she not only experiences societal pressure, but has to deal with the knowledge that avoiding marriage could ruin her parent's lives. (even if her father is far from the embodiment of a good parental figure.) The third reason? Well this is where matters get complicated.
Turns out Hinako's marriage isn't just arranged, it's divine. Occasionally a woman in Ebisugaoka is born with divine power and, when this happens, she is married to the heir of the Fox Clan. In return, the residents of Ebisugaoka are protected by the divine fox spirit. Hinako is the next in this long line of women and her husband-to-be is the Fox Mask man you meet throughout the game. While Hinako is promised that being his wife will make her happy, it's clearly a role which lacks any form of personal freedom. Fox Mask may protect and help Hinako, but he expects her obedience in return.

The developer's choice to make a fox the divine spirit is an interesting one, because the Japanese folklore surrounding foxes, called kitsune, is absolutely fascinating. Depending on the tale, kitsune are either tricksters or divine protectors. When undertaking the trickster role (sometimes referred to as 'bake kitsune'), kitsune are known to shapeshift into women. In these forms, they can suck the life force from men or take on the role of a dutiful wife. As divine protectors, kitsune are connected to Inari Ōkami. In this role they offer assistance with many matters of life, including agriculture, fertility, shelter and family safely. (Those divine foxes are busy.)
The Fox Mask character appears to be a merger of these two kitsune archetypes. He offers Hinako and Ebisugaoka protection, but at the price of Hinako's hand in marriage. The trick, meanwhile, is a reversal of a bake kitsune transforming into a beautiful woman. Fox Mask is presenting himself as the perfect husband - caring, understanding - all the while hoping this will transform Hinako into a dutiful wife. An idea that is supported by the fact that Hinako gains fox-like characteristics and her own fox mask further into the game, even revealed to have her own 'Fox Side' hidden inside her. Yet, Fox Mask might be being tricked too…
Combined, these three factors reveal Silent Hill f to be Hinako's fight for her independence; whether she escapes the expected role of wife or submits being down to your choices. Thankfully, she's not alone in this fight. Her childhood friend Shu has her back. Coming from a family of doctors, he even provides her with the Red Capsules to prevent her headaches. How nice! I'm sure he doesn't have any sinister motivations behind such a kind act. Right?

Now I've covered the background without completing losing myself into kitsune folklore, let's break down each Silent Hill f ending - taking a look at which is the bad, good and true ending:
Normal Ending - Coming Home To Roost
In 'Coming Home To Roost' it's revealed that the events of Silent Hill f have actually been Hinako experiencing a psychotic episode after rejecting her marriage. One that led her to murdering her parents and at least two other people during the wedding ceremony itself.
Turns out Shu did have sinister motivations when giving Hinako those Red Capsules. (Immoral acts in a Silent Hill game, who would have guessed?) Rather than preventing her headaches, Shu has been secretly building up Hinako's addiction and dependency on the Red Capsules. By doing so, he hopes to ruin her arranged marriage before stepping into the role of her husband himself. Don't think he was expecting all the murder though…
This is why you can only unlock the other endings by not taking the Red Capsules. Taking a single one forces Hinako back into her addicted state and, unknowingly, under Shu's control.

Bad Ending - Fox's Wedding
In 'Fox's Wedding', the truth about the Red Capsules is revealed. Afterwards, Hinako submits to her fate and marries Fox Mask. Yet, it comes at the cost of destroying her true self by consuming the Agura no Hotei-sama. The last we see in this ending is the remnant of Hinako's true self - a severed face - lying on the ground, begging for her freedom, before it's quite literally stamped out.
I consider this the bad ending because, while 'Coming Home To Roost' involves an awful lot of murder, here Hinako gives up her freedom out of her own free will. In fact, she openly destroys that part of herself to become Fox Mask's wife. She transforms herself into a doll who will always follow his wishes.

Good Ending - The Fox Wets Its Tail
'The Fox Wets Its Tail' is the good ending. For Hinako and Shu. Nobody else.
Here, free of the Red Capsules influence, Hinako finally stands up for herself and abandons Fox Mask in favour of her freedom. The downside? Well turns out the divine fox was protecting Ebisugaoka from volcanic activity. Though the fate of the villagers is left unknown, the village itself is definitely doomed.
There's also an element of sadness for Hinako too. While she's escaped her marriage, she's left with Shu. Another man who has manipulated her and may do so again in the future. (Trying to get your partner addicted to drugs is hands down a red flag.)

True Ending - Ebisugaoka in Silence
'Ebisugaoka in Silence' is, in my opinion, the true ending for it is here where the truth about the divine marriage is revealed. Turns out that Fox Mask, whose real name is Kotoyuki, is as trapped as Hinako. He's possessed by his ancestor who wishes to continue the cycle of marriage by keeping Ebisugaoka under the threat of destruction.
In this ending, Hinako is split into two people again - Fox Hinako and Human Hinako. This time, however, they're able to reconcile before freeing Kotoyuki together. The ending sees all three of them freed from the curse, with Human Hinako left to decide her own future and Fox Hinako considering a real relationship with Kotoyuiki.
I consider this to be Silent Hill f's true ending, because it sees Hinako obtaining her freedom without having to hurt anyone nor herself. Both the Fox Clan and Ebisugaoka are also free of the marriage curse, allowing both parties to grow beyond the rules it enforced upon them. This is shown in the letter Kotoyuki sends Fox Hinako - he's finally living his own life. Really the only person who's probably sad is Shu, but, let's be honest, he deserves it.
Though if you want to consider the UFO ending to be the true ending, then go for it. Maybe it was just spooky aliens all along…

Best of luck reaching every Silent Hill f ending!
