Eridium in Borderlands 4 is something you'll collect during your time in Kairos, and something most veteran Borderlands players are familar with.

Now, the real question is what do you use Eridium for? You're being given it as a reward for certain tasks but, arguably, it's pretty unclear what it's for until you reach the very late stages of Borderlands 4.

So, we're here to show you how to use Eridium in Borderlands 4 and how to get Eridium too.

How to use Eridium in Borderlands 4

You can mainly use Eridium in Borderlands 4 in the later stages of the game and after you've completed the main story missions. This doesn't mean that you should completely ignore collecting Eridium as you progress through the story, in fact we recommend collecting as much of it as you can to create a nice stockpile for when you can eventually use it.

You can use Eridum for the following things on Kairos:

  • Respec your Specialisation - Unlike normal respeccing, you'll need to use 5,000 Eridium to respect your specialisation.
  • Replay boss fights - Once you complete the main story you can visit Moxxi's Big Encore Machine to replay previously finished boss fights to get better loot.
  • Donate weapon effects - You can use Eridium to transfer one weapon's effects to another. However, there's a catch, doing this will completely destroy the weapon you're taking the effect from.

How to get Eridium in Borderlands 4

The best way to get Eridium in Borderlands 4 is through completing contracts and challenges. You can also gain Eridium by progressing through the main story and replaying certain story missions to get more rewards.

Challenges

Challenges are an option on your mission menu in the tab labelled 'challenges' (shocking, I know.) Here, you'll find a list of available challenges that you can complete at your leisure for rewards like XP, Cash and Eridium.

Contracts

You'll unlock the ability to accept and complete Contracts at the end of the 'Recruitment Drive' main story mission early in the main story when you reach the safehouse. You can find out what contracts are available by interacting with the wall in a safehouse. These, like challenges, are also entirely optional but they give out useful rewards that include Eridium. They can also be a neat way to hone your skills and explore Kairos.

Progress in the main story

This is a way you'll collect Eridium without even thinking about it, because you'll be rewarded it naturally for playing through the main story missions thrown at you as you adventure around Kairos. It's not the most lucrative way, but when you combine this with contracts and challenges you can find yourself with a nice little stockpile of Eridium when you need it.
