Nintendo Switch 2 launch day live
It's-a here.

Today's the day. After months and years of speculation about what Nintendo's Switch 2 will be, today, it releases in the wild. You'll be able to get your mitts on it and tell us what you think. Are you as excited by Mario Kart World as the, um, world seems to be? What do you make of the Switch 2 upgrades for games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Is Welcome Tour really worth the £8 Nintendo is asking for? And Will the Switch 2 launch go as smoothly and successfully as Nintendo hopes?
We'll be covering all aspects of the Switch 2 launch and gathering everything together here so you can see at a glance what's been going on. We'll be keeping an eye on any launch issues there may be, any launch stock there may be, and how the world is reacting to playing Nintendo's new machine. And that includes you - we want to hear what you think in the comments below.
If you are receiving a Switch 2 today, here are a few articles you might find helpful:
- Here's where you can find the SD memory slot on Switch 2 and some explanation about which SD memory cards you can use (Digital Foundry has helpfully compiled a list of the best Micro SD memory cards around)
- Here's a list of all the games you can play on Switch 2 at launch
- Here's why you need to install the day-one Switch 2 update
- And here's a completely timely review of Nintendo's controversial and expensive handheld games machine (sorry)
There's lots still to come, such as our review thoughts about Switch 2 and Digital Foundry's take on the hardware, so pull up a virtual chair as we welcome Switch 2 to the world.
Our live coverage of this event has finished.
Hello and good morning to you. Wishing you all the best of luck with your deliveries and for their speedy arrivals. Let's hope no Switch 2s get left on the porch today.
Switch 2 deliveries are arriving for some
We're all excitedly waiting for our Switch 2s to arrive at Eurogamer. Spare a moment for our guides editor, Lottie, though. Perhaps the best troll delivery of all time.

To quote Lottie: "I'm going back to bed. The day is ruined."
Rogueywon says: Oof, painful delivery troll. At least it wasn't cat litter. That PS5 launch day felt like a particularly grim lottery.
Hang on, hang on, let's wind this back. Are you saying you received cat litter instead of a PS5?
Fallout2 says: My Switch 2 just arrived. Woo!
Congratulations!
kyleayy says: I went and picked mine up from Curry's earlier!
Congratulations!
Benjigrin says: Mine is due at 17:30 🙄 DPD are never early on new console day 😡it's was 17:30 for ... PS4, Switch, Xbox One X, Series X and PS5, my heart sinks when it's DPD you never know till 10 am on the day 🥲
Oof! At least you'll be clear of work for the day then, presumably.
Madame-Drofla says: Mines is arriving between half past one and half past two :]
Very nice, very nice.
My son's Switch 2 is due between 1 and 2pm, so he'll have a nice surprise when he gets back from school. Straight on Fortnite, no doubt.
Rogueywon says: For clarity, I didn't receive cat litter, but some people did and it got media coverage.
I see, I see. I wonder if anyone tried to plug it in.
Rogueywon says: I think DF tried plugging in the cat litter. Conclusions: not great, but framerates generally better than the Series S.
Oof - yowsers!
Where to find Switch 2 stock today
If you're suddenly feeling a rush of excitement to buy a Switch 2 and don't know where to look, we've got you covered. Here are the shops being restocked with Switch 2 stock today.
A not-Switch 2 review
Given Nintendo's decision to hold review units until launch we won't be able to offer a detailed hardware review until next week, but we do have this: a review of Nintendo's other controversial handheld console.
Spoilers: It's the Virtual Boy!
Anand Modha says: I haven't got one yet, was planning to when I'd finished some personal projects. Going online and seeing so many people happy and playing is awesome. I love new console day, who ever is releasing.
There is a lovely energy about a day like this, isn't there? An infectious excitement.
Anyone good with screen protector woes? I applied a tempered glass protector, and it seemed to go perfectly, but then this spot never filled in properly. Is this a "get a new protector" situation? Anyone managed to fix this before? You are my only hope Eurogamer readers.

Waiting on Argos from the wilds of Scotland
I am sitting at my desk, twitching like an anxious meerkat because I really, really want my Switch 2 to arrive. One small sound from outside, and I look up and out of the window, hoping it is that glorious DPD van pulling up outside my front door. So far, though, it hasn't been. Boo :(
I live in the wilds of Scotland, and Matt has joked the delivery driver is probably still trying to work out how to get to my house. I really hope they figure it out soon...
H1ppyDave says: Screen protector - use a credit card with a piece of cardboard folded over it. For that bubble I’d personally Lift it carefully back up (Inuse a guitar plectrum but anything thin made of plastic should do) and let it resettle.
OMG, H1ppyDave, you're a star. I had been pressing it with just a cloth and had no luck. Used your suggestion and now I'm bubble-free! May your Switch 2 launch day be wonderful!
Here's a question. How reckless of me is it, on a scale of one-to-good-god-no-Bertie, to not use a screen protector on the Switch 2?
Nintendo has hidden the SD card slot again
If you know where the SD card slot on the Switch 2 is, this might seem obvious, but trust me when I say we have plenty of data to show that a lot of people couldn't find it on the OG Switch. So, if you are struggling to locate the slot on the Switch 2, it's under the kickstand. More info is in our handy guide on how to locate the Switch 2 SD card slot.
vert1go/Lifeis2-D says: Probably best to remind everyone in case they missed it but DO NOT REMOVE THE FILM ALREADY ON THE SCREEN, Nintendo put it there in case of accidents!
Is this a genuine PSA piece of advice?
Rogueywon says: The bit about not removing the film that comes on the screen absolutely is a valid piece of PSA advice. Nintendo themselves and some retailers are sharing that warning.
Thank you. Then please everyone bear this in mind!
Anyone played any games other than Mario Kart World yet? I've got a little impressions article going live soon about what I think is one of the best launch games.
Switch 1 fans needn't worry
Not everyone can or wants to jump into a new console on day one, but thankfully the Switch is still home to loads of games and it's doubtful you've played all of them. Our own Christian Donlan reckons you should get Burnout Paradise if you're yet to give it a whirl.
Minor thing, but I'm already a big fan of the way the Joy-Con now clip in to the Switch. So much better than the slide system we had on the OG Switch.
I'm still waiting
.....Gimme that GameCube goodness
Like my colleagues, I am also sat waiting impatiently for a package to arrive. It's quite rude of the post to be this late, frankly. Don't they know I need to be playing F-Zero GX on a Switch 2 right now, even though I have a copy on a shelf next to me I could already be playing?Adrian Chiles has given me permission to stop work and start playing games
I was just on Radio 5 Live chatting about Switch 2. Adrian Chiles has given me permission to just play the console for the rest of time basically, so I guess this may be the last you hear from me XD Guys, it has been a pleasure!
SupremeAC says: Didn't preorder as I was not interested in the launch day lineup and not all too hapoy with the pricepoint. Just bought one on a random stop while passing by a toystore. Best dad ever.
Assuming you're buying it for your child or children, that is! But I admire such spontaneity (and gosh is that a fiendish word to spell).
connormcleod says: Mine just got delivered DPD from EE, opened the bag it came in and the box has already been opened, both steals have been cut open and the box has clearly been opened fully.... Can't tell if they've done anything else... There's no temporary sticky plastic cover on the screen, should there be? I'm hoping they haven't stolen my mario kart key ffs
Good grief. I'm sorry to read this. Has anyone else had issues like this?
Rpt81 says: Also, regarding seals, at my workplace a couple of our allocation of consoles came in with broken seals as well. We weren’t sure if it was dodgy warehouse folks trying to get at the Mario codes, but seems it might be a widespread thing.
Another report of a broken seal, I see.
Have we found the best Switch 2 exclusive?
We're all playing Mario Kart World, obviously, but there just might be a better racing game available at launch. Fans of the Fast racing series from previous Nintendo systems will be well aware of Fast Fusuion, the Switch 2 entry, but if you're unaware, you should read on. It's brilliant. I'm still pretty early in the game (and in Mario Kart World), but you can check out my impressions of Fast Fusion for more info.

Stepharneo says: My mum just called to tell me that she had accidentally ordered loads of Switch 2 bits and wanted help working out what had happened. What had happened is that the Shopto account I have had since I was a child had somehow reverted my address back to my parent's house. My mum is so used to accidental purchases that she wholeheartedly believed that she had just ordered a set of joycon wheels and I'm so used to her accidental purchases that my first thought was "I hope you haven't bought those for me as a late birthday present, because I've bought a set myself". So my Switch 2 is due here between 3:30 and 4:30 (painful, but I am supposed to be working today...) and then I have to head over to my parents to pick up the bits after work.
Haha - I love this!
Pricey accessories and 4K TV required to fully complete Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
Will you be playing Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour? Be aware you won't be able to fully complete the game unless you shell out for some extra accessories - as well as a 4K TV.
Switch 2 boosts original Switch 1 games
Digital Foundry has been hard at work looking at some less than perfect original Switch games to see if they perform better on the Switch 2 without specific performance updates. Taking Batman: Arkham Knight as an example, the news is good. This rather rough Switch game is transformed (at least in terms of frame rate) on the Switch 2. Look out for more tests soon.
Major retailer carelessly staples receipts into Switch 2's screen
Hey there! How's your Switch 2 doing? Did a major US retailer manage to staple a reciept right through the box and into your console's shiny new screen? Well, consider yourself lucky...
How has your Switch 2 experience been so far?
How's everyone doing today? Have you got a Switch 2 or still waiting for delivery? What do you make of it? Any setup problems?
Yardsale19X says: Message from John Lewis about my delayed Switch 2: "We've had a problem in the warehouse. We're sorry but your original item has been damaged in the warehouse and we've had to order a replacement from the manufacturer." There seems to be a theme with a few Switch 2s getting damaged while still in packaging - as with the staple incident. I wonder if the box isn't good enough to always protect the console.
Are you suffering as Yardsale19X is? Did anyone get one of the now infamous stapled screens?
omarhbore says: Big fan so far! Premium-feeling and slick and sleek. The loading speed and performance of older games is Woah and the Zelda upgrades look properly Wow. Also the set-up music was great?!
omarhbore is happy with the Switch 2 so far. I've still got to give the upgraded Zeldas a look.
Switch 2 is hardwood floor resistant!
lazarusnine says: After receiving it yesterday, I promptly dropped the Switch 2 onto hardwood floor as it slid off my lap. It’s seemingly no worse for wear. You’re welcome for testing that out for you.
Thanks for testing that out for us, lazarusnine. I don't suggest anyone else does similar, but do let us know if you accidentally drop your Switch 2 onto/into something!
PSA: Mario Kart World defaults to Smart Steering
If you thought the steering was a bit off in Mario Kart World, know that the game defaults to Smart Steering. Definitely worth switching that off to explore any off road shortcuts!
I love how a new console can make old games feel fresh again. Sure, I dabbled in Mario Kart World last night but then spent ages re-living my youth with F-Zero GX before accidentally spending a few hours restarting Tears of the Kingdom. It really does look beautiful with the higher frame rate. What a game!
Eurogamer's first Switch 2 game review
You're going to have to wait until next week for our Mario Kart World review, but EG favourite Christian Donlan has delivered his verdict on Switch 2 mini-game/museum budget game, Welcome Tour. Check out our Welcome Tour review for all the info, and for some classic Donlan-isms.
Cow takes the Mario Kart World crown, as lobbies fill with the bovine racer
Mooooooo-ve over Mario, Peach and Luigi - the true star of Mario Kart World is Cow, who has been dominating lobbies since the game's launch yesterday.Mama Mia! The Nintendo Switch 2 Game Chat feature will transcribe naughty words
So, it turns out, the Switch 2's Game Chat feature will transcribe anything you say... including expletives. My Switch 2 is here!
Guys, DPD did it! They found Scotland! On an unrelated note, I seem to have suddenly developed a bit of a tickle in my throat... I may need to take the rest of the day off to recuperate...Read this next
