Pokémon Go Crowned Sword Zamazenta counters, weaknesses and tactics

How to defeat the Fairy/Fighting-type Pokémon’s ultimate form.

Crowned Shield Zamazenta, the ultimate form of the Warrior Pokémon, is here in the world of Pokémon Go.

This is just one half of the Crowned duo, with the other being Crowned Sword Zacian - the sword and shield that protect the realm. Zacian literally holds a sword, but Zamazenta's face, chest and flank hair hardens into indestructible pieces of interlocking armour. Can you imagine being Zamazenta’s trainer and trying to groom it? Presumably knot.

While these aren't technically Dynamax Pokémon, they can take part in Max Battles. Does this mean you can catch them directly, unlike normal Dynamax Pokémon? Absolutely not! You need to work for your goodest boi and that involves knowing how to change Zamazenta's form.

Below you’ll find Crowned Shield Zamazenta’s counters and weaknesses to help you succeed in Pokémon Go.

First things first: find a raid and join a lobby. Crowned Shield Zamazenta will be appearing in five-star raids on Saturday 29th June between 10am and 6pm (local time), as part of Go Fest Global 2025.

Second, you need to know that unlike regular Zamazenta, which is a pure Fighting-type, the Crowned Pokémon both gain Steel-typing. This means that your optimal counters are going to look a little different to regular Zamazenta. Below you’ll find the counters and weaknesses for Crowned Shield Zamazenta to help you win the raid:

  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta types - Fighting and Steel-type
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta is weak against - Fighting, Fire and Ground-type attacks
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta is super resistant to - Bug, Poison and Rock-type attacks.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta is resistant to - Dark, Dragon, Grass, Ice, Normal and Steel-type attacks.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta Mega counters - Primal Groudon is your best bet, followed by Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard Y.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta non-Mega counters - If you have a Shadow Heatran, it will outperform Mega Blaziken and Mega Garchomp. If not, Shadow Chandelure, Reshiram Blacephalon or regular Heatran will do the trick. Pick them in that order if you want an easy time.
  • Your team should ideally consist of Primal Groudon and five Reshiram
  • Number of players to beat Crowned Shield Zamazenta - You need a minimum of three Trainers to take it down, or ideally five to eight for a reasonable challenge. Any more than that things will get very easy very quickly!
  • Tactics - By and large, this is simply pick the right counters and mash the attack button. There's a lot of good options to fall back on, but pick from the above list if you want to speed up the raid!

  • Weather boosted (Cloudy) when being caught - 2625 to 2735 CP

Best Crowned Shield Zamazenta moveset in Pokémon Go

Zamazenta's stats change as it transforms, with its attack stat dropping ever so slightly (1.5%). Its defence, meanwhile, jumps by 24% (from 236 to 292). This is less of a boost than Crowned Sword Zacian's, which benefits from a 31% attack boost, putting it firmly in second place (after Crowned Sword Zacian) in the Master League rankings.

Interestingly, both legendary Pokémon have a signature move which couples as an Adventure Effect. For Crowned Zamazenta this is Behemoth Bash, along with the rest of its optimal moveset...

Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta

Crowned Shield Zamazenta ideally runs Metal Claw (Fast), Close Combat and Behemoth Bash (Charged). Behemoth Bash is this Pokémon's signature move, dealing big damage for a reasonable cost. Close Combat is a self-debuff, however, so should primarily be used as coverage.

Here are all the Fast and Charged moves Crowned Shield Zamazenta can use in Pokémon Go:

Fast Moves:

  • Ice Fang (Ice)
  • Metal Claw (Steel)

Charged Moves:

  • Behemoth Bash (Steel)
  • Close Combat (Fighting)
  • Giga Impact (Normal)
  • Moonblast (Fairy)

Make sure you know the October event and raid schedule. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Everything we know about Crowned Shield Zamazenta

The Warrior Pokémon, Zamazenta, is pretty interesting. It shares a category with Zacian, the literal sword to Zamazenta's shield. Along with Cresselia, they form an elite group of Pokémon who have had their base stats updated with the release of a new generation. Like Zacian, Zamazenta's Attack was reduced from 130 to 120.

Crowned Shield Zamazenta doesn't really care about attack though, as you might expect from a cursory glance. It boasts the highest Defence and Special Defence of all Fighting-type Pokémon.

If you're wondering about the design, it's believed that Zamazenta is based on the tale of King Arthur; where Zacian is Excalibur, Zamazenta is Prydwen - King Arthur's sword and shield respectively. The wolf design is likely influenced by the fact that they were once common here in the UK, and were seen as symbols of nobility.

As for Zamazenta's its Crowned form, we lean more into the UK's Norse influence with Sköll, the wolf that chases the sun.

Crowned Shield Zamazenta presents a paradox when placed alongside its sibling. Zacian's sword can cut through anything, but Zamazenta's shield can deflect anything. Let's hope that these two siblings never fall out and we don't have to see what happens when an immovable force meets an immovable object.

Finally, we have the curious name. Zamazenta is literally 'the magenta' in a Japanese accent. The becomes 'Za' and magenta in Japanese is 'mazenta'. If you want to know what Zacian is, it's The Cyan. Amusingly simple, right? Now you won't forget which is which (unless you're cyan–magenta colourblind, in which case, the one that sounds like shield has the sword and the one that sounds like sword has a shield... sorry about that).

If you want to learn more about Zamazenta, you can read its official Pokédex entries below:

  • Zamazenta: 'In times past, it worked together with a king of the people to save the Galar region. It absorbs metal that it then uses in battle. This Pokémon slept for aeons while in the form of a statue. It was asleep for so long, people forgot that it ever existed.'
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta: 'Now that it’s equipped with its shield, it can shrug off impressive blows, including the attacks of Dynamax Pokémon. Its ability to deflect any attack led to it being known as the Fighting Master’s Shield. It was feared and respected by all.'

You'll be pleased to know that shiny Zamazenta is in the game, along with shiny Crowned Shield Zamazenta!

As you can see below, Shiny Zamazenta is actually magenta. Knowing what you now know about the name of this Pokémon, this is really cool. Plus, if you like purple shinies (we do), this Pokémon becomes incredibly appealing.

Crowned Shield Zacian is just as cool, with two-tone blue and its regal gold looking incredible against each other. We're crossing all of our fingers and toes to pick up these beauties this weekend.

Good luck defeating Crowned Shield Zamazenta in Pokémon Go!
