Pokémon Go Mega Camerupt counters, weaknesses and moveset explained
How to defeat this Fire and Ground-type Mega Evolution.

Mega Camerupt, the Mega Evolution of the Eruption Pokémon, has debuted in Pokémon Go.
Released in Pokémon Go as part of the Mega Camerupt Raid Day in September 2025, Mega Camerupt sees this Pokémon transform from an awful Fire and Ground-type into a bad Fire and Ground-type Pokémon! Yeah, this one is pure Dex filler - grab some energy, register it to your Pokédex and move on...
Like all Mega Evolutions, you can't simply transform a Camerupt into its Mega form. Instead, you'll need to defeat it in Mega Raids until you've collected enough Mega Camerupt Energy. So let's take a look at Mega Camerupt's counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go!
On this page:
Mega Camerupt counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go
The fastest way to collect Mega Camerupt Energy is to defeat one in a Mega Raid. Below you'll find the counters and weaknesses for Mega Camerupt to help in your Pokémon Go fight:
- Mega Camerupt types - Fire and Ground-type
- Mega Camerupt is double weak against - Water-type attacks
- Mega Camerupt is weak against - Ground-type attacks
- Mega Camerupt Mega counters - Primal Kyogre, first and foremost. Mega Swampert, Mega Blastoise and Mega Gyarados are your next best shots. All of these should be running Water-type Fast and Charged attacks.
- Mega Camerupt non-Mega counters - Kyogre, Swampert, Primarina, Golisopod, Quaquaval, Volcanion and Feraligatr are your top choices. All of these need to run full-Water attacks.
- Tactics - Since Mega Camerupt has a double weakness, that's what we're aiming at. Simply take your biggest water pistols and point them in Mega Camerupt's direction. You're looking at a minimum of two Trainers, but ideally up to five.

Best Mega Camerupt moveset in Pokémon Go
For Mega Camerupt's best moveset in Pokémon Go, we recommend Incinerate as a Fast Move and Earth Power as a Charged Move. That said, this is purely academic - this is not a good Pokémon and we don't recommend using TMs to achieve this moveset.

Below you'll find Camerupt's full moveset in Pokémon Go:
Fast Moves
- Ember (Fire)
- Incinerate (Fire)
- Rock Smash (Fighting)
Charged Moves
- Earthquake (Ground)
- Earth Power (Ground)
- Overheat (Fire)
- Solar Beam (Grass)
Everything we know about Camerupt

Camerupt is the evolved form of Numel, the Numb Pokémon. This dromedary is a little droll - it's a camel with a volcano for a hump. Camerupt is slightly more interesting in that it now has two volcanoes.
It's also the signature Pokémon of the Team Magma, the villains of Pokémon Ruby. This is really driven home by the fact that its Mega Evolution has a whopping great M on its forehead, which raises many a question. Are all Mega Camerupt inherently evil? Is Team Magma so predestined that it worked its way into Numel's genetics? Just what is Arceus playing at here? There are too many questions for such a bad Pokémon...
Weirdly, despite Camerupt having two humps, its Mega Evolution reverts back to one. We're not quite sure why - the official Pokédex entry for Camerupt states 'It is well known that the humps on its back erupt every 10 years', but doesn't mention why it has two humps. Meanwhile, Mega Camerupt's entry states 'The humps on Camerupt’s back are formed by a transformation of its bones'. This is an interesting departure from the usual Mega treatment, where the Pokémon just gets more of whatever makes it unique (like Mega Blastoise growing extra cannons).
If you want to learn more about the Numel family, you can read their official Pokédex entries below:
- Numel: 'Magma of almost 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit courses through its body. When it grows cold, the magma hardens and slows it. The flaming magma it stores in the hump on its back is the source of its tremendous power.'
- Camerupt: 'It lives in the crater of a volcano. It is well known that the humps on its back erupt every 10 years. If angered, the humps on its back erupt in a shower of molten lava. It lives in the craters of volcanoes.'
- Mega Camerupt: 'Camerupt has a volcano inside its body. Magma of 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit courses through its body. Occasionally, the humps on this Pokémon’s back erupt, spewing the superheated magma. The humps on Camerupt’s back are formed by a transformation of its bones. They sometimes blast out molten magma. This Pokémon apparently erupts often when it is enraged.'
Finally, we have the shinies. It's good to know that shiny Numel is in the game, which means shiny Mega Camerupt is available, too! You can compare the shinies below.

Best of luck battling Mega Camerupt in Pokémon Go!
