Pokémon Go Mega Latios weakness, counters and best Latios moveset

How to defeat the Mega version of Latios.

Mega Latios back in the world of Pokémon Go! Unfortunately, you can’t ride it around the map like you can in the main-series games, but it’s still worth getting hold of if you can.

While Mega Latios is no longer at the top of the top of the tables (it's not a top-three Mega for either of its types), it's not terrible by any stretch, and it's a chance for newer players to add the Gen 3 Mega Eon Pokémon the Pokédex.

Like all Mega Evolutions, Mega Latios can't be caught directly and isn't always available in Pokémon Go. Instead, you need to keep defeating it in Mega Raids until you've collected enough Mega Energy for its temporary evolution.

Below you'll find Mega Latios's counters and weaknesses to help you succeed in Pokémon Go - just remember you need to have a Latias in your Pokémon storage to perform its Mega Evolution.

Mega Latios counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go

Below you can find the Mega Latios weaknesses, with a list of the best counters and how to use them to defeat this Raid Boss in Pokémon Go:

  • Mega Latios type – Dragon and Psychic
  • Mega Latios is weak against – Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost and Ice-type attacks
  • Mega Latios Mega counters – Mega Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp Mega Tyranitar and Mega Gardevoir.
  • Mega Latios non-Mega counters – Eternatus, Dawn Wings Necrozma, Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, Origin Forme Dialga, and Rayquaza are your strongest options.
  • Tactics - Dragon vs Dragon is always rough, but Mega Rayquaza is notably the most powerful Pokémon in the game. If you have five Eternatus backing it up, fantastic. If not, work your way down the list with your most powerful Dragon, Ice and Fairy types. This is a tough Raid battle, but slightly easier than Mega Latias, fortunately! You're looking at a bare minimum of four Trainers, but ideally around 6–9 for a guaranteed win.
Mega Rayquaza and Eternatus are your top two counters.

Mega Latios CP in Pokémon Go

Here are the CP ranges you can expect to see from Mega Latios in Pokémon Go raids:

  • Raid Boss CP – 84,000 CP
  • CP range for catching Latios – 2,090 to 2,178 CP
  • CP weather Boost CP (Windy) for catching Latios – 2,613 to 2,723 CP

Make sure you know the October event and raid schedule. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Latios Moveset in Pokémon Go

Mega Latias's best moveset is Dragon Breath and Aura Sphere. You're unlikely to want to use this in a Raid as the Dragons you used to take it down are more powerful than it is, and as far as Psychic types are concerned, Mega Alakazam, Mega Gallade and Mega Gardevoir are stronger options.

Here are all the Fast and Charged moves Mega Latios can use in Pokémon Go:

Latios Fast Moves:

  • Dragon Breath (Dragon)
  • Zen Headbutt (Psychic)

Latios Charged Moves:

  • Aura Sphere (Fighting)
  • Dragon Claw (Dragon)
  • Luster Purge (Legacy, Psychic)
  • Psychic (Psychic)
  • Solar Beam (Grass)

Everything we know about Latias

Latios, alongside its compatriot Latias, is the Eon Pokémon. The two are very similar, being a cross between a dragon and a griffin - and when their Megas are thrown into the mix, a fighter jet.

For those who struggle with this (and understandably so), Latias is the red one, turning orange when shiny. Latios is the blue one, which turns green when shiny. Both, frustratingly, turn purple when Mega Evolved, and both turn green as the shiny Mega. The only visual difference between the Megas is the eye colour - Mega Latios has red irises, while Mega Latias has yellow irises.

If you want to learn more about Latios, you can read its official Pokédex entry below:

  • Latios: 'Latios will only open its heart to a Trainer with a compassionate spirit. This Pokémon can fly faster than a jet plane by folding its forelegs to minimize air resistance. Latios has the ability to make others see an image of what it has seen or imagines in its head. This Pokémon is intelligent and understands human speech.'

Finally, we have the shinies. It's good to know that shiny Latios and Latias are in the game, which means you can be confused by your shiny active Mega Pokémon, too! You can compare the shinies below.

Good luck battling Mega Latios in Pokémon Go!
