The Mural puzzle in Silent Hill f is the last puzzle players will come to (unless you’re playing on New Game Plus) and as a result, it’s a little tricky to figure out at first glance. Requiring you to find and correctly position three more Crests, this puzzle is similar to the prior My Room puzzle, with a little more complexity.

What’s more is that this puzzle’s solution is impacted by which ending you’re on track to get, rather than your selected Silent Hill f puzzle difficulty. It’s worth noting that all images embedded in the below guide are spoilers, so I highly recommend only using this guide once you are in the same room as the Mural and ready to go about solving the puzzle.

Silent Hill f Mural puzzle solution

Upon arriving at the Mural in Silent Hill f, you’ll find multiple empty slots where the three Crests you will have just tracked down in the surrounding area – the Fox Mask Crest, the Black Sparrow Crest, and the White Sparrow Crest – can be placed. You can’t just place them anywhere, however.

There are nine slots, but three Crests. On the wall to the left of the Mural, there’s a scroll featuring a short riddle that acts as our only hint to solving this puzzle. Though, the hint you receive may differ depending on the following…

Your selected puzzle difficulty for Silent Hill f isn’t relevant here. This puzzle’s solution – much like the Scales puzzle, Ominous Photo puzzle, and My Room puzzle – depends on which ending you’re on track to get. If this is your first Silent Hill f playthrough, you are guaranteed to get the first ending; alternate endings (of which there are three, plus one additional ‘joke’ ending) are only available in New Game Plus.

There are ending name spoilers ahead, but I haven’t divulged what each ending entails.

Mural puzzle - Ending 1 solution

Ending 1 refers to the original, first ending of Silent Hill f: the ‘Coming Home to Roost’ ending. The hint provided, and where you should place the Crests, is as follows:

‘The Black Bird wishes to take the White Bird. The White Bird wishes to resist. The Fox brings along his followers in triumph. He notices not the two birds in conflict.’

  • White Sparrow Crest: On the right of the mural, two foxes are fighting one another. Place this inside the lantern that the left fox is holding.
  • Black Sparrow Crest: On the right of the mural, two foxes are fighting one another. Place this in the back of the fox on the right.
  • Fox Mask Crest: Place in the leader of the troops fan, to the far left of the mural.

Mural puzzle - Ending 2 solution

Ending 2 refers to the ‘Fox’s Wedding’ ending of Silent Hill f, which is only available in New Game Plus. The hint provided, and where you should place the Crests, is as follows:

‘The Black Bird is in the cage at last. The satisfied Fox spreads his fan. The White Bird remains in a daze. All had been swept away as she slept.’

  • White Sparrow Crest: Place in the lantern above the red-robed character who’s sitting on the floor.
  • Black Sparrow Crest: Place in the lantern below the carriage.
  • Fox Mask Crest: Place in the leader of the troops fan, to the far left of the mural.

Mural puzzle - Ending 3 solution

Ending 3 refers to the ‘The Fox Wets Its Tail’ ending of Silent Hill f, which is only available in New Game Plus. The hint provided, and where you should place the Crests, is as follows:

‘The White Bird flies free from her cage. Her shadow follows close behind her. The Fox raises a lantern as he watches them fly away. There is nothing he can do now.’

  • White Sparrow Crest: Place in the lantern in the lower-right.
  • Black Sparrow Crest: Place in the lantern that the fox to the White Sparrow’s left is holding.
  • Fox Mask Crest: Place in the foxes lantern above the carriage; the fox is looking towards the first two Crests.

Mural puzzle - Ending 4 solution

Ending 2 refers to the ‘Ebisugaoka in Silence’ ending of Silent Hill f, which is only available in New Game Plus. The hint provided, and where you should place the Crests, is as follows:

‘Two chicks confide in one another in their shells. A Fox watches over them in the light of his lantern. Nobody knows when, or even if, the eggs will hatch. Not even the chicks themselves.’

  • Black Sparrow Crest: Place in the slot inside the carriage.
  • White Sparrow Crest: Place in the lantern below the Black Sparrow Crest/carriage.
  • Fox Mask Crest: Place in the foxes lantern above the Black Sparrow Crest/carriage.
