Upon gaining entry to the Shimuzu Residence in Silent Hill f, you’ll not only find that Hinako’s home has transformed, but you’ll also run into your first puzzle in a good while: the Ominous Photo puzzle.

The Ominous Photo puzzle in Silent Hill f fortunately isn’t too troubling, but it is the first of many puzzles that take place in Hinako’s home and how you solve it depends on the ending you’re on track to get, rather than your selected puzzle difficulty.

To help you out, here’s our Silent Hill f Ominous Photo puzzle solution guide.

As you enter Shimizu Residence I, you’ll no doubt encounter the Ominous Photo puzzle right away; it’s a room with a bunch of strange framed photos – featuring Hinako and her friends – that are hard to miss (the room is in the northeast of Residence I).

If you look at the group photograph on the wall, some people have been removed from many of the photographs or defaced in some way or another. This also then adds the Ominous Photo puzzle to your journal.

The premise of this puzzle is quite simple, but we can’t solve it just yet as we are missing one of the photographs that should be in this room.

To kick off the puzzle, you want to enter Shimizu Residence II and track down the framed portrait of Hinako found in the southwest of the Residence; be wary of enemies along the way.

With the Picture Frame in your possession, return to Shimizu Residence I and place the picture of Hinako on the wall in the room full of photographs.

With that done, look carefully at the group photo from earlier and make note of who in it has been defaced.

You’ll then need to go around the room and interact with the photographs, rotating the pictures of those who have been defaced in the group picture; how many photos you need to flip will depend on the ending you’re on track to get.

While we’re not 100% certain exactly how each ending condition affects this puzzle, it fortunately doesn’t change how the puzzle is solved. Once you flip over the photographs of those who have been defaced – which could be just the one person, or as many as five – the group photo will fall from the wall and you will receive the White Bird and Fox Crest needed for the My Room puzzle.
