This gorgeous Xbox-inspired 8BitDo mechanical keyboard is a third off from Amazon

8BitDo's range of retro-inspired mechanical keyboards have gotten a big thumbs-up from Will and I over the last few years for their thoughtful and generally lovely mix of retro looks and a product that's well appointed with a good range of features.
This Retro 87 model that has been discounted at Amazon UK is no different, in a translucent green shell that's straight from the original Xbox's 2004 special edition - and officially licensed from Microsoft. If you're an Xbox fan, or you know someone who is, then they'll probably love it to pieces (and I count myself in that), especially as it's just £66 from Amazon, marking out its best price in weeks, and saving you a third on its £100 retail price.

The big thing with this particular 8BitDo keyboard is its looks, with that gorgeous green chassis that's been taken from the 2004 Crystal Green special edition of the OG Xbox - it's one I've always wanted! Well, that, and any of the launch team editions. Anyway, I digress. This keyboard certainly looks the part, with colour-matched double-layered ABS keycaps, as well as arrow keys that are matched to ABXY buttons, which is a pleasant touch. It is also comes with an Xbox key that acts as a shortcut button to the Xbox Game Bar. A TKL layout is also functional while giving you more desk space, and you only miss out on a numberpad against a full-size keyboard - UK folks may want to watch out that this is a US ANSI layout, but if your system language is set to English UK, then it'll work with no trouble - some keys will just be in a different position, but you do get used to it.
Inside, this keyboard comes with Kailh Jellyfish X switches, which are a 50g linear switch with neat clear steams and housings. If you don't like them for whatever reason, then the Retro 87 is also hot-swappable, so you can put whatever other switches inside you want to without the need for any soldering action. In addition, this keyboard is also wireless, and works via either Bluetooth or its bundled 2.4GHz receiver, and you can also use USB-C wired if you so choose.
Battery life is also strong, with 8BitDo rating this keyboard to last up to 300 hours over Bluetooth, or up to 280 hours over the 2.4GHz receiver. You also get the usual 'super-programmable buttons' that 8BitDo provide with these keyboards, and it is also programmable in software. If you want RGB lighting, then there are eight preset effects you can utilise.
